October 2017

We had two days off school for Columbus Day and parent/teacher conferences.  Love getting to hear about all the progress the girls are making and hearing their teachers brag on them.  So proud of all their hard work.  Auntie Kara was off one of those two days as well so the girls and I met her for lunch.  Then we went back to her apartment to play with her kitties.  Her beloved kitty passed away in Aug at age 13. =(  After visiting many shelters she decided to get two 5 month old kittens.  They are not siblings but they seem to be getting along.  They are SO cute and we enjoyed getting to play with them, even if only one cooperated for a picture.

Nathan and I decided to "graduate" ourselves upstairs for church choir this year now that we no longer have anyone in preschool.  We are having fun and so are the girls.  Abigail LOVES being upstairs with all the big kids.  The kids choir sang a song in big church one Sunday this month.  Our church has an awesome photographer that takes pictures so here's a few he captured. The city of Plano put on a Family Safety Fair a few weekends ago.  Sadly it was the day before the cold front came through so it was 90 degrees.  But we had fun.  Hannah was especially excited to get to see some of the fire clowns.  They had just been out to their school to do an assembly about safety.  Abigail was to shy to get in the picture.

We decided to go with a super hero theme for our Halloween costumes this year.  My mom found super cute and reasonably priced costumes for the girls on-line so we did not have to make anything, which was nice. We did splurge on the ADORABLE bows, but they TOTALLY make the costume and we may wear them individually upon occasion if we have clothing to match.  My mom did a costume photo session one weekend and I am so pleased with what she captured and all her editing work.  So much fun!!

This jail idea was all my sister.  I think this is my favorite series of photos we took.  They make me laugh every time.  LOVE the cute thought bubbles my mom added!!

We hit two fall festivals over the weekend and then trick-or-treated around the block in our neighborhood on Halloween night.  More than enough candy!  We also got to wear our costumes to church choir one night so yeah for getting extra use out of them.

Sadly the tummy bug made it though our house at the end of the month.  NOT FUN!!  It was short lived, but brutal.  It it Abigail first and she actually missed one of the fall festivals.  We thought we were safe after several days and then Hannah and I got it.  So far Nathan has escaped and we pray that continues.  Being immune-suppressed means getting sick is really not fun for him.

Meet Domino

Our little kitten came home a little over a week ago.  After much discussion and debate we decided to name him Domino.  He has 10 spots (5 on each side) a black head and tail.  His nose and ears have the most hair.  The rest of him is covered in a very fine layer of fur sort of like peach fuzz.  He feels a little like suede when you pet him.

The night Domino came home the girls were already in bed (but not asleep).  All his stuff is in the playroom which shares the same wall that Abigail's bed is on.  Domino was meowing as he checked out the room and we heard Abigail "meow" in response from her bed.  SO FUNNY!  Then when I woke her up the next morning she said "Mommy I heard the video of our kitty meowing last night."  When she came out and saw Domino she said "Oh it was Domino, not the video!"

Sweet baby seems to be adjusting fairly well.  He has started playing with some of his toys, his favorites are the laser pointer and a nano bug. Super cool toy! Domino hasn't had any issues, eating, drinking, or using his liter box.  He does like attention and will follow you around meowing if you aren't playing with him or if he's hungry.  If he is resting or sleeping then it's on one of us.  Total cuddle bug!!!  Thankfully he also likes his bed and blanket where he sleeps at night or while we are gone. We find him in there every morning.

Domino had his first bath (with us) on Sunday.  He was a little confused because he has only been bathed in the sink.  We put him in the girls old baby bathtub inside the regular bath tub.  Domino meowed some and tried to climb out a few times, but he didn't do any hissing or scratching.  I expect he'll get more comfortable as he gets used to our house.  And maybe someday we can just go in the bathtub with the girls.  =)

Needless to say we are IN LOVE!!  The girls enjoy having a pet and think it's hysterical to watch him play.  They also insist on giving him kisses before bed/nap.  I love that our kitty can sit on me or my furniture and there is no pet hair left behind.  And no one seems to be having any allergy issues.  YEAH!!

Better pictures coming soon.  My family came over to play last weekend and my mom got a few good shots. =)

Coming Soon....a Four Legged Friend

No it's not a rat, it's a sphynx kitten.  This little guy is 3 weeks old and still has some growing to do before he can come home (9 more weeks).

Here's the back story:  Nathan and I both love cats, grew up with them, but have some allergy issues.  When we first got married we didn't want to pay a pet deposit, then we were settling into our house, and then we had babies.  We'd occasionally talk about getting a cat, but it wasn't the right time and we didn't want to deal with the hair or allergies.  Nathan always made sure to point out we could get a hairless cat and I would immediately and loudly say NO!  They look like naked rats.  In fairness this was the only sphynx I had ever seen.

Fast forward to last summer, we took the girls to the pet store just to walk around and got to pet some cute kittens.  So on the way home I said "If it weren't for not wanting hair in my house I'd have taken one home."  With 3 girls we have more than enough hair already.  =) Nathan again suggests the hairless cat (yes 10 years later...he's a broken record).  So I asked him if he was really serious that we could get a sphynx.  He said yes and even had a friend from work that had one.  So I did a Google search a realized not all sphynx cats were pink or ugly.  We also went to visit his friend's kitties (he actually has 2).  They were very cute, friendly,  and soft!

Since we had to go through a breeder that means a more expensive price tag.  YIKES!  Hence the many months between falling in love with the sphynx breed and actually getting one.  =P  We can't wait to bring home our little "fuzzy" friend.
